From DeviantArt, Redbubble vs. Society6

I've had photographs and other creations on DeviantArt for a number of years but I was recently thinking about selling prints, in the form of mugs and notebooks. While DA have the facility of prints, those sections of their website seem particularly dated and limited, for one thing there is no preview of what a print will look like in a particular format which isn't helpful to anyone.
Having already noticed someone else I know of using Redbubble I headed on over there and signed up and began uploading artwork and editing my profile. [Click here to continue reading]

The Jacob Rees-Mogg Guide

Rees-Mogg M.P. has also deemed a number of words no longer fit for purpose. There are quite a lot of them, and I got very bothered by the list, I did. Due to this list I speculate, or rather, ascertain this will pose an ongoing and unacceptable problem; hopefully my readers will meet with understanding and not too much disappointment, however I note/ understand your concerns. I am pleased to learn that all words in this list, when used inappropriately will irritate the honourable M.P. gravely. [Read the full blog post here]

I am a Plogger!

I just discovered that Plogging is a thing. When I go out for my morning jog I often find discarded drinks bottles and cans, and as I’m returning along the road that leads to my house I will pick these up and put them in my plastics recycling box; it bothers me to see litter, especially on my street and while the council do send out litter pickers I’m not sure they target my road, and I’d rather not ignore it in the hope it will disappear on its own while in the meantime acting like kibble and leading others to believe tossing stuff out of a car window is okay… it’s not. Old Web Wednesday #3

Just in time for this week’s Old Web Wednesday I discovered this gem of old-skool web: takingcareofbusiness.com I assume it’s an old website rather than a current website using out-of-date styling, since it’s the only old website I’ve come across this week I thought I’d go into some detail on this one, even if the bottom of the home page does state “Copyright 1996 – 2018“ [Continue reading...]

Table Borders; from FrontPage to Firefox

I still use MS FrontPage for creating web pages and ever since I switched over to Firefox from Internet Explorer all those moons ago, I’ve had an issue with table borders, or rather, Firefox has an issue with them.
It’s all down to how each browser interprets the code.

Which stone circle is this?

I have a fascination with old standing stones, stone circles and other such ancient sites. I recently came across this story in Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopedia about a "ring of great stones", but I wonder which, if any, stone circle it is based on.

Alone on Mars

I've recently found myself reading a couple of books about loneliness. One was No Man Friday by Rex Gordon aka, First on Mars. Rex Gordon is a pen name for Stanley Bennett Hough (1917 - 1998). This book was published in 1956 and I found my copy in a second hand shop. It provides an insight into ideas about space travel at this time, before the Apollo 11 Moon landing took place (1969). In this story we have Gordon Holder blasting off with a team in a British rocket from the Woomera rocket range in Australia and ending up alone and stranded on Mars where he has to figure out how to survive. Yoga for Anxiety

Anxiety can be debilitating and while the title of this post implies that yoga can help with anxiety, this, I realise, is not always the case; anxiety and/or depression can seemingly zap all energy. As I'm someone who has been doing yoga for a few years and in that time come to realise I could be considered quite an anxious person, I have also learned that yoga doesn't always work for me and anxiety/depression. Youtube have removed...

...the option to copy a video URL with a specific starting point.
Previously when you clicked the Share button beneath a video paused at a certain point you were presented with a URL which included that start time. [Click here to learn more]

Star Trek Discovery – Rip-offs and silliness #2

Whilst watching the first series of Star Trek Discovery last year I formed a list of gripes and observations, namely how the plots of certain episodes were just like what I’d seen elsewhere, from Avatar to Farscape to name just a couple. I think this is becoming an increasing problem in today’s entertainment; obviously, as we get older the more TV shows and films we get to see, and therefore we witness less and less originality. In some ways this is disappointing because you can too easily predict what’s going to happen, but on the flip-side it gives me an opportunity to ponder familiar concepts that intrigue me. Old Web Wednesday #2

It just so happened that yesterday I had a couple of hours spare to spend at a library, so I wandered through to my section of choice and grabbed a small pile of books to flick through.

Since two hours isn’t long enough for me to read an entire book, let alone a pile of them I made use of the Contents, Indexes and Further Reading sections. It is the latter of these which provides the stimulus for this week’s Old Web Wednesday offering since all too often authors refer to websites which either don’t exist any more, or, as I prefer them, to look like they were created a decade or more ago and haven’t been updated since. Old Web Wednesday #1

Old Web Wednesday, as I declare it, is where I look back over the past 7 days and share the old online content I have stumbled upon. Lets wonder where the creators (the webmasters of old) have gone, and what they’re up to today; and if we’re really brave, send them a random message about the content they’ve left us here to find! Hello, Customer – Stay Safe Online

I’ve had a couple of e-mails recently, claiming to be from big names that provide services to me, yet neither addresses me by name, so the advice is to treat them as suspicious/bogus. However, I’m pretty certain they are legitimate, the first one at least, which leads me to be frustrated by the irresponsibleness of these two:
- Microsoft
- HM Revenue & Customs

A Greener Ride

A few years ago when I cycled up and around Scotland from my home in Wales, UK I was (or certainly became) conscious of a few environmental issues, such as deforestation, which felt beyond my control, and recycling, which was within my control.

Cycling and camping each day meant I was constantly buying food and generally only for a meal at a time; no bulk-buying with potentially less packaging. With each purchase from a supermarket (or heaven forbid, a takeaway) there would be some packaging to dispose of, from a plastic milk carton for my daily doses of porridge, to “paper” sandwich cartons.  [Continue Reading...]
